Anyway... this is sort of odd, too... Cherokee is supposed to be a working cat. She was adopted by some nuns who operate a residence for young women living temporarily in DC while they go to work or go to college. The young women discovered mice living in their pantry and were not at all pleased. At a group meeting, they decided a natural approach to Mouse Management would be more appropriate for religious women than cruel traps, so they decided to adopt a cat.
The odd part is that Cherokee is... well, let's just say "the good life" to her is having a lap to curl up on. She excels at purring, but I'm not so sure about catching mice. She is a cat though, and we're all predators. I just hope she doesn't have to work too hard. I don't think she'd like that.
Cherokee was in the group home an awfully long time waiting for the right forever family to come along. And she was never very happy there. She didn't like living with so many cats. Her feelings were hurt, too. She moved in with her first human when she was a kitten, and they were best friends for six years. Then a man moved in with them, and then a human baby came along. That's when the man decided there was "no room" for Cherokee.
It seems a man would take up more space than a cat. Maybe they got rid of the wrong family member.
It doesn't matter now though. Cherokee went to her new home with a huge bag of gifts. Diana bought her a pink bed and matching blanket, and we gave her some catnip toys from our online store. She also took a really pretty mat to go under her litter box and a cute matching privacy screen. When Diana and our human left, she was still in her carrier (with the door open) snuggling with the catnip toys. Our human said she looked like she was smiling.
When she called today to see how Cherokee was doing, the person she spoke to said everyone thinks she "so beautiful. They love her," the woman said, "they just love her."
Be happy, my friend. I hope you'll be very, very happy.
Here's Cherokee's beautiful picture again. It was taken by Diana Hanshaw.
