Fancy And Cubby Get Returned

I got some sad news today. Fancy and Cubby were returned! I was friends with them in the group home, and I was so happy for them when they finally got adopted last month.

But it turns out that Fancy and Cubby weren't what the people "had in mind." They wanted instant lap cats. But after two years in a shelter, Fancy and Cubby needed more than a few minutes to adjust to their new home and people they'd met just once before at an adoption show. The more the people tried to get the cats to cuddle on their laps, the more aloof they became. Can't say I blame them. I wouldn't even consider curling up on our humans lap! It's much more comfortable to nap on her desk with my head on her keyboard.

Back to Fancy and Cubby though. Cats in no-kill shelters tend to wait for the right forever family to come along, even if they have to wait for years. Our human knows this, and she was a bit concerned when Fancy and Cubby were less than enthusiastic about the people who wanted to adopt them. Maybe she would have made up a reason why they couldn't have them, but there were extenuating circumstances...

There are some new cats in the group home named Buddy and George, and they chased Cubby at every opportunity. Poor Cubby was so terrified of them, she made a windowsill into her private apartment. She even had a litter box up there!

Our human (and her friends Diana and Ruth) was so eager to get Cubby away from Buddy and George, she went ahead with the adoption and hoped for the best.

When she found out they were being returned, she begged her friend Pat to let them stay at her house so Cubby wouldn't have to deal with Buddy and George again. So now they're living in a room at Pat's house because Pat doesn't like her fosters to hang out with her forever cats.

Darn... I wish we could at least find a better foster home for them. This is just so upsetting! Maybe you'd consider giving them a temporary home. Please... Here's their writeup on Adopt A Pet. And here are some pictures Diana Hanshaw took of them when they were in the group home
