Traveling With Tommy

Tommy saw a cardiologist today. How scary... But he says he feels fine, and he and our human had a good time together on the ride to the doctor's office in Rockville.

For a long time, our human's been thinking that riding in a car would be less upsetting to cats if they could see where they were going and weren't trapped in a hot, dark box (I think she calls it a "cat carrier"). Then she read something to that effect on the Web and got very excited.

So today she decided to experiment. She got Tommy all suited up in a bright green harness and leash like the one PK's wearing in this picture and put him in one of those hateful boxes. In the car, she opened the door to the box, and Tommy sat on top of it all the way to Rockville. He had so much fun! He didn't know where to look first... did he want to watch the trees going by on one side or the cars going by on the other. The big truck was loud and scary until he figured out where the noise was coming from. And the men working on the road were so interesting. Luckily, the light was red and he got to watch them for a long time.

On the way home, our human took the top off the box and he could sit in it and still see what was going on. He liked that even better!

This probably wouldn't work for all cats. But Tommy is just so cool... he's so calm and composed and brave. Our human loves him so much, and she loves the time they spend alone outside... or in the car. I hope all that medicine the doctor gave him works and he stays well. Please, Tommy, please stay well. We love you, sweet boy.
