Zoe Meets Ms. Mantis

Zoe almost caught a praying mantis this evening. Well, that's not quite true. Zoe is too gentle to catch things. She likes to go outside and nibble grass and commune with nature.

So this evening she went out with our human and spotted a very large insect on the sidewalk next to her favorite flowerbed. She walked right up to it. Then she sat down and put one velvety black paw on the big bug. The praying mantis moved out of her way. Zoe sat next to her, both front feet on the sidewalk, and looked at her for the longest time while our human held her breath. Finally, Zoe realized she was hungry and went inside for dinner and some catnip. So much for her encounter with Ms. Mantis.

When our human left, the praying mantis was still on the sidewalk, maybe communing with nature or maybe looking for something to eat.

Here's a picture of Zoe. Don't tell Ms. Mantis, but I think Zoe's a lot prettier.

Catnip is much better than a praying mantis, I'd think. Then again, I'm human, so who am I to say.

Trista, I'm so happy to hear you accepted the responsibility of cheering up you new Human and helping her to see life through your eyes. She's quite a wonderful Human, and -- I dare say -- I think you both scored!
