Welcome Back

Our human is pet sitting for a feral cat colony this week. She loves these cats, and I'm sure the cats love her, although they've never shown it, until this morning. When she went into the garage, where some of them eat, they'd left her a welcome back gift... a squirrel. She thanked them and asked if they would mind moving the poor guy. She said outside the garage sounded good.

When she went back this evening, the squirrel was gone. What nice cats! Or maybe they were just really hungry and didn't like their breakfast.

Here's a post she did for her own blog. I don't know... she's not a bad writer, but I think my blog's a lot better than hers is.

"I'm in the middle of one of my favorite pet sitting jobs -- a backyard colony of six feral cats. I love to sit on the top of a hill and watch the cats and the geese and the songbirds and the deer all coming and going from their respective parts of the yard as if the others weren't even there.

"This little universe seems to have rules that only the animals understand. The geese eat the corn first, while the deer wait and finally get to finish what's left. The cats watch the bird feeder but never go near it. And the cats have divided themselves into three pairs with separate living and eating areas. The couples are almost always together, strolling across the yard with their tails intertwined, or lying in the grass together, shoulder to shoulder. And we thought cats were antisocial, solitary hunters.

"Here's a wonderful article about the 'unsociable cat.' Enjoy..."
